In construction, we are taught to measure twice and cut once. But when it comes to custom aluminium fabrication, particularly for window cills and flashings, the reality on site is often much more chaotic.
Contractors frequently rely on hand-drawn sketches on scraps of plasterboard, or phone in measurements while standing in the wind. A phone call reading off numbers like "about two point four meters" or "give it an extra twenty mil" is a recipe for disaster.
Aluminium is an unforgiving material. Unlike timber or lead, it cannot be easily trimmed, stretched, or reshaped on site once it has been bent and powder-coated. If a cill arrives 20mm too short, it cannot be used. It goes straight into the metal recycling skip.
Many builders calculate the cost of an error simply as the cost of the replacement material. That is a dangerous underestimation. The real costs of a wrong cill or flashing include:
We built the Cills.ie configurator specifically to address this pain point. When you use Cills.ie on your phone or tablet on site:
What you see in 3D is exactly what we fabricate. By using a digital feedback loop, we have brought fabrication errors down to 0% for orders placed through the platform.
Stop guessing. Start measuring with certainty.
